To the Keene High School Class of 1891 goes the honor of having organized the school’s first football team. Nevertheless, the game of football seems to have been played informally in Keene somewhat earlier, and the game of Rugby, a British form of football, was evidently well known. In fact, it was a Keene High School Rugby team that had the distinction of playing the first known game by a local schoolboy squad against Harvard.
