George McGovern to visit New Hampshire

COME VISIT WITH GEORGE MCGOVERN
ON MONDAY JULY 20
On Monday July 20, the day after Senator George McGovern turns 87, he will spend the day in New Hampshire at two signing events for his book, Abraham Lincoln , one of the American Presidents Series created by Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. (who asked him to write the book). Come to this reunion and welcome the Senator back to New Hampshire at Portsmouth at 11:00 AM at the RiverRun Bookstore and/or at 5:15 in Concord at Gibson's Bookstore.
For those who opposed the Vietnam War, Senator McGovern's 1972 presidential campaign with its "Peace is Patriotic" message was instrumental in forming their political activism. As a bomber pilot in World War II he knew more about the realities of war than did most others in the debate. His other great cause, ending world hunger, has resulted in the feeding of tens of millions of people, beginning with his job as Director of President Kennedy's Food for Peace Program, his work with Senator Robert Dole to revolutionize the U.S. Food Stamp program, his work as U.N. Ambassador on World Hunger and his his on-going efforts for international school feeding programs, which programs are providing millions of young girls, usually left out of educational opportunities in many countries, their only chance at getting an education.
When Senator McGovern appeared at the N.H. Democratic State convention in 1984, he shared the stage with 7 other presidential candidates, but only he received a standing ovation - and it lasted for 10 minutes - as New Hampshire activists honored the man described by Sen. Robert F. Kennedy as "the most decent man in the U.S. Senate."
The Senator will discuss the lessons of Abraham Lincoln and will take questions from the audience.
Date: Monday, July 20
Event 1 11 AM Riverrun Bookstore
20 Congress Street, Portsmouth NH 03801
store number: 603-431-2100
Event 2 5:15 PM Gibson's Bookstore
27 South Main Street

Keene Rally for Public Health Support

RALLY IN KEENE TO CALL ON NH SENATOR SUPPORT FOR PUBLIC HEALTH INSURANCE OPTION NOW!On Thursday, July 9th, Working Families Win will be hosting a rally in Keene, NH, in conjunction with MoveOn.org's "Public Option Now!" Health Care Rallies nationwide. The goal of these rallies is to send a strong message to every Senator: Health care reform must include a strong public health insurance option.
With the United States Senate divided over how to move forward on national healthcare reform, now is the perfect opportunity to call on our elected officials to support a public health insurance option to make sure every American can afford quality healthcare.
Where: Central Square, Keene
When: July 9th, 4:15pm-5:30pm
Why: To thank Senator Shaheen for her support of the public health insurance option and call on Senator Gregg to support the Public Health Option
Come out to Central Square to let the public know that you support Quality, Affordable healthcare. After the rally we will take action to let our elected officials know how we feel about healthcare reform.
Bring your friends, family, and neighbors to Central Square this Thursday in support of healthcare reform!
CALLS TO SENATOR GREGG!Make your voice heard: Call Senator Judd Gregg, 1.866.288.1495 on Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8. (We are trying to pour in thousands of calls to Senator Gregg over these two days)
Congress is making major decisions on President Obama's proposal to bring down the cost of healthcare for working families.
But some special interest groups want to block reforms that will drive down costs - leaving millions of workers unsure if they can keep up with exploding healthcare costs.
Make sure the people who represent you in Washington D.C. know that if healthcare isn't affordable for ordinary working people, the healthcare system isn't working.
How to speak out:
1. Call Senator Gregg at 1.866.288.1495.
2. Do you know a family member or a neighbor who has struggled to get quality, affordable healthcare? Tell their story. Or, talk about concerns you have about the rising cost of healthcare.
3. Explain that healthcare won't be fixed until it's affordable for every worker in our community.
Now is the time to take strong action! We can't wait any longer because it's too important and Congress will be moving on this very quickly. Senator Gregg has not been with us on healthcare reform. It's time to call him and tell him to do the right thing for his constituents.
